Despair and Hope in the Poetry of Abdullah al-Baradouni

Abstract

The development of Arabic literature was not limited to literary periods, but also manifested clearly at the national level. Every poet desires to express their people, conveying their human experience. Poetry is among the most influential creative arts, expressing what stirs within the human soul. Literature served as the voice of these peoples, reflecting their concerns and the political stances of their rulers, whether in rejection or support. It also reflected social events and economic fluctuations that affected the poet. As a citizen first and foremost, he lived through and reflected these events, reshaping them through words and rhythms that left their distinct mark, contributing to the flourishing of literature in general and poetry in particular. The reflection of life within literature led poets to compete with one another to assert their positions. Among these poets is Abdullah al-Baradouni, the focus of this research. Before delving into his study, it is essential to examine aspects of his life from which his poetry emerged.
