Functional Analysis of Crime from an Anthropological Perspective

(A Study in Criminal Anthropology)

Abstract

This study seeks to discuss the functional analysis of crime from an anthropological perspective and to examine the role of criminal anthropology in revealing the nature of criminal behaviour. Accordingly, the research first explores the concept and historical development of criminal anthropology. Second, it addresses the concept of crime from the perspective of functional structuralism by examining the causes and contributing factors of crime. Third, it explains the understanding of criminal behaviour, its motives, and its causes through the interpretations offered by the functionalist approach.

At the level of identifying the internal and external components involved in committing a crime, the study focuses on personality traits, factors of social upbringing, and characteristics of the broader social and cultural structure. This is intended to clarify the main axes upon which anthropology builds its functional interpretation of crime. On the other hand, the research also attempts to provide a critical review of the weaknesses in criminal anthropology that may hinder the achievement of objective results. Therefore, the study is primarily concerned with highlighting scientific and methodological approaches for regulating and refining the subject of criminal anthropology, both from a functional and a formal perspective.
