Abstract
This study explores the production of contemporary installation artworks using the artificial intelligence program Midjourney. The study specifically focuses on leveraging Midjourney as an innovative tool, recognizing its capabilities and technologies that can be employed in the field of visual arts. It serves as a valuable resource for optimizing the artist's time and effort. Its output is characterized by multiplicity and fluidity, driven by the artist's imaginative and fertile mind in conveying their ideas and perspectives, thereby facilitating their application in society.
The study adopted a systematic scientific approach, including problem identification, hypothesis formulation, setting objectives, determining significance and limitations, and outlining the methodology. A descriptive, analytical, and applied approach was utilized to create designs for contemporary installation artworks based on Midjourney. These artworks were then implemented within the Saudi community environment.
The study yielded several key findings, including but not limited to: the potential for integrating technology and visual arts, and the utilization of emergent technological skills (specifically AI programs) in producing innovative visual arts. This program, with its capabilities, acts as a generative creative catalyst that shortens the innovation timeline by interacting with the artist's thought process. Additionally, Midjourney possesses practical features and skills that enhance the creative capacities of artists.
The study also put forth several recommendations, such as: broadening the scope of application for art sciences and their fields by integrating them with generative artificial intelligence skills, conducting analytical studies on AI programs and their efficiencies for use in scientific research and the production of innovative visual arts, and organizing practical training workshops on the capabilities and advancements of AI programs for their deployment in creative works within the visual arts. Furthermore, it recommends conducting comprehensive critical studies to analyse contemporary artworks that utilize AI programs and to identify the drivers of creativity in both technology and the arts.
