Challenges of Educational Leadership in the Context of Digital Transformation

(A field study)

Abstract

The process of digital transformation is one of the most prominent trends in contemporary educational institutions, leading to fundamental changes in the management and delivery of education. Despite the numerous benefits associated with digital transformation, educational leaders in these institutions encounter various challenges that may impact the successful implementation of these transformations. This study aims to explore the challenges faced by educational leadership in the context of digital transformation through a field study involving several schools and universities in both the public and private sectors. The study focuses on analyzing key factors influencing the leadership of technological change, including the lack of training on modern technologies, resistance to change from teachers and students, and weaknesses in digital infrastructure. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, where data was collected through surveys and interviews with educational leaders, along with field observations in participating educational institutions. The data was analyzed using both statistical and qualitative methods, including descriptive analysis, regression analysis, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings indicate that educational leaders face significant challenges due to insufficient training in modern technology usage and notable resistance from some faculty members towards digital transformation. Furthermore, the study highlights the inadequacy of digital infrastructure in certain educational institutions, which hinders the effective implementation of digital transformation. However, the results also reveal that some private institutions have achieved relative success in implementing digital transformation due to their investment in technology and continuous training programs. This study underscores the importance of developing targeted training programs for educational leaders to enhance their digital competencies, alongside the need to improve technological infrastructure in educational institutions. Additionally, it recommends fostering a culture of change and innovation within educational environments by supporting technological advancements and providing a learning environment that encourages the use of technology.
