The Impact of Random Land Uses on Transport and Traffic - Hilla District Study Area

Abstract

We note that there is a great interest in the planning of land uses, which forms the basis for the organization and planning of cities and the achievement of optimal use of urban land, and for Iraqi cities they have not found the required attention in the subject of studying land uses and transport despite the importance of this thing for citizens.

The study area throughout its history has witnessed a revolution in many areas such as turbulent population increases, a significant increase in the number and sizes of means of transport, the multiplicity of activities and uses, and the complexity of the causes of life, which has left its clear effects on the composition of Hilla district, especially in the functions of transport and traffic, as a result of this development  is a mixture of  uses that led to the emergence of many problems,  Especially related to traffic, the streets are witnessing many traffic jams, congestion in traffic,  environmental pollution and noise. The problem of research is to solve traffic problems resulting from the lack of optimal spatial prediction of land uses, and assumes that  the inappropriate organization of land uses or randomness in distribution and the incompatibility of the movement plan with the growth and development of the judiciary, and the research aims to study the relationship between land uses and transportation and to know the existing problems and develop the necessary solutions to them,  and the research will follow the descriptive analytical approach in proving the hypothesis of the research and will use the questionnaire tool and the GIS program  With the aim of coming up with a realistic  proposal that includes basic policies and strategies to achieve optimal land use. Most important conclusions of which is the deterioration of the road network with the absence of a hierarchy of roads and the narrowness of sidewalks in many streets  and there is poor planning for road canons with  the lack and absence of parking spaces for car stations and the lack  of pedestrian or bicycle lanes  and the inability of the street network to absorb the great traffic momentum resulting from the high number of vehicles. The research recommends following a scientific and planning method for the development of Hilla district based  on providing services  to the population and developing the current street network to suit the current and future traffic volume,  establishing a number of bridges at intersections where  the traffic volume is high, relying on mass  transportation and reducing the use of private car, and  Emphasize the establishment of the proposed tramway to reduce transportation problems in Hilla district.
